“Enjoy every nice day outdoors.” That sums up Charlie’s outlook on weather, regardless of the season. While growing up in New England, Charlie’s love for the weather was apparent from a young age. He knew he would eventually follow a career into meteorology. After completing his Meteorology degree at Plymouth State University, he went to work in “The World’s Worst Weather” at the Mount Washington Observatory. Working as staff meteorologist on an eight day shift allowed him to witness some of the most extreme weather in the world.
After living and working for three winters on the summit of Mount Washington, Charlie and his wife thought it might be a good idea to have him home for dinner once and a while. His weather journey took him to television broadcasting which began at WVII ABC-7 in Bangor, ME. His passion for forecasting New England weather then brought him to WLNE ABC-6 in Providence, RI. After a few years in southern New England, the Maine lifestyle came calling once again. For past decade, he has called Portland home. Charlie can be seen forecasting on WGME CBS-13 and FOX 23 weekday evenings.
He has been awarded the American Meteorological Society’s seal of approval for quality television weather broadcasts. He has also been designated Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the AMS. His forecast was awarded Best Weathercast for three years by the Maine Association of Broadcasters. In addition, his Weathercast also won first place by the Maine Associated Press Broadcasters Association.
When not in the CBS 13 weather office, you can usually find him, his wife Morningstar, their daughters Catherine and Maris, and dog Barley doing something fun outside. They enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, and cooking during the winter months. When the snow melts, you can usually find them working in the garden, hiking in the White Mountains, or fishing for stripers along the Maine coast.
