Our recent stretch of pleasant fall weather will be coming to an end over the next 24 hours. Most of today will be dry with only thickening clouds. Rain will overspread the region late this afternoon and evening with the heaviest rain reserved for overnight into early Thursday morning. Winds will be strongest during that period as well. Skies will become brighter during the course of the day Thursday which will allow for a nice warm-up. Afternoon highs will surge into the mid to upper 60s for most communities. A cold front will swing through the area Thursday evening with the potential for a quick round of showers. More importantly, that’s the boundary between the mild temps Thursday and cooler air slated to invade Friday. High swill have a hard time getting out of the low 50s Friday.
STORM HEADLINES
RAINFALL: Heaviest rainfall will be between 7PM this evening and 7AM Thursday. Most towns will pick up 1-3 inches of rain. Slightly higher amounts are possible in the hillier terrain and mountains. Here’s the timing.
WINDS: Strongest winds will be between 10PM tonight and 10 AM Thursday. Frequent gusts of 35 to 45 mph are expected. Locally higher gusts of 50 mph are possible along parts of midcoast and Central Maine. A Wind Advisory has been issued for parts of Midcoast and Central Maine.
POWER OUTAGES: With winds gusting over 40 mph, scattered power outages are possible. Foliage season 2015 will be coming to an end.
FLOODING: Flooding can’t be ruled out, but at this point does not appear to be a major concern. Most communities will pick up between 1 and 2 inches of rain with higher amounts possible in the mountains. No Flood Watches have been issued.
COASTAL FLOODING: The high tide this afternoon 12:02 PM is running astronomically high 11.2’ but it’s probably too early to line up with the strongest winds and highest seas. Therefore, coastal flooding should not be a huge concern for the Wednesday high tide. The next high tide is at 12:37AM Thursday but is running lower at 10.9’. That tide lines up best with strongest winds and highest seas and need to be monitored. The tide at 12: 52 PM Thursday 11.4’ also needs to be watched. No Coastal Flood Advisories have been issued.
